One of the fastest growing vacation destinations in the
world that hasn't lost its original flavour of a small
fishermen's town along the Caribbean Sea, Playa del
Carmen is located in the heart of the Mayan Riviera, a
160km/100 mile stretch along the Caribbean coastline
from the south of Cancun to the ruins of Tulum.
Visit the world famous "Quinta Avenida" (5th Avenue)
pedestrian walkway where countless aromas beckon
you to linger at one of the many quaint street cafés or
restaurants that line the cobblestone streets. The
walkway is in itself a colourful bazaar, stretching over
two kilometres of vendors and retail stores offering an
endless variety of diverse shopping.
All major Mayan ruins and eco-parks are centrally
located to Playa del Carmen. The island of Cozumel is
located 12 nautical miles due east or a 40 minute ride
on the ferry. Cancun International Airport is a 40 minute
drive to the north.
The climate in Playa del Carmen is tropical and humid
(20° North latitude), with the average daytime high
temperature of 26°C/79°F in January and 34°C/91°F in
July. The constant ocean breezes are refreshing and
can make winter evenings cool enough for a light
sweater and pants.
